3 Reasons Why You Should Not Use Third-party OS Utilities

2009-10-20

There are several ways that third-party utilities can damage a computer's operating system. Although these programs are meant to support or improve the OS, the fact is that many can seriously harm your computer's functionality. From Windows to Linux, registry cleaners have been utilized for years as a way to enhance system performance. Some of them, however, have plenty of detrimental design issues often leading to the spread of malware. This is something a hard drive tool or cleaner is supposed to eliminate. Unfortunately, free or generic programs can produce reverse results. If poorly designed, registry cleaners produce undesired results, including not cleaning enough disk space or slowing down OS components. The experts believe it is better to keep defragmenting drives, rather than suffer costly repairs or irreparable harm to your computer by using one of these programs.

Another reason to stay away from third-party utilities is compatibility. Every computer has its own DNA, and like a blueprint, it often repels intrusion from software it does not understand. This is why a warning or prompt appears before each download. The Windows system urges its users to run programs that are either compatible with it, or came as part of the operating system. From Disk Doctor to First Aid, these programs are specifically designed to work within the OS. The result is a safe and efficient scan, as opposed to an outside utility that can present potential problems. The built in utilities may not offer the freedom a user desires, but running a registry cleaner or third-party tool is not much safer. The outside utility programs are also known to change or revise existing settings. This could lead to program conflicts and system files not operating they way they should.

A huge issue with third-party tools is also configuration. If the software is not configured or equipped to meet system requirements, it can pose a serious threat to your PC's hard drive. It may not perform the desired functions - like file eradication and the unclogging of remnants in the system - and the problem your OS is experiencing could worsen. It is simply better to run a computer program that is certified and correlates with your particular operating system.

With the exception of some software, add-ons can truly affect the longevity of your PC. Over time, these programs may slow your system down, use up space and prevent normal program operations. It is always recommended to work with the software your system came with, before downloading potentially harmful tools. These tools can be registry cleaners, disc repair programs or even file uploading and monitoring programs. You should seek the advise of an expert before installing any third-party software.
