5 Potential Problems You Might Encounter through Registry Cleaners

2009-08-06

Registry cleaners are supposed to help out a computer by removing any configuration data that is no longer being used by the system. This data is no longer useful to the computer and, therefore, is simply taking up valuable space on the hard drive. A good registry cleaner will scan the entire hard drive for the user and then decide which of these issues needs to be dealt with immediately. In these cases, the registry cleaner is an extremely valuable utility for a Windows user because it makes the entire cleaning process very easy. With that being said, there are multiple problems that must be looked at before using a registry cleaner as there is the potential for a great deal to go wrong.

The first issue that you must be aware of when using any registry cleaner is the potential for registry damage. If the cleaner is not designed well, it could delete files that you are still using, which will impact your day-to-day use of the computer. In some cases, your computer could become completely useless if your registry cleaner makes a major mistake and deletes an important key.

A second issue to consider when selecting a registry cleaner is the potential for malware to be included with the program. Some hackers will install Trojans into a cleaner, which will then be loaded onto your computer when you download the program. This can lead to many additional problems such as loss of computer functionality, pop-ups, or data mining taking place.

A third potential problem is that with all of the rogue programs that are out there, you are taking an unnecessary risk when using a registry cleaner because it will not improve the speed of your computer very much. New operating systems have minimized the impact that the registry has on the computer’s performance, which makes many types of registry cleaners pretty unnecessary.

A fourth problem is that the registry cannot delete many registry entries, which will only add to the frustration of the user. There are some issues, which usually come along with malware and viruses that simply cannot be removed by the cleaner, another reason why the majority of registry cleaners are not worth the time.

A final issue is that registry cleaners are not equipped to handle entries that regenerate automatically. When a virus has corrupted the registry, it will, often times, duplicate itself to reappear after it has been removed. Many registry cleaners will not notice this, so the virus will not be removed by following this procedure.
