Basic Services Offered By All Registry Cleaning Programs

2010-04-02

If you're like most people, the performance of your computer is very important to you. A computer that's performing poorly can be very frustrating. Nobody wants their computer running slow, freezing up, and having error messages pop up all the time or have programs not running the way they should. The fact is that these problems could be caused by your computer registry needing some maintenance. You could fix all of these problems and get rid of your frustrations by simply running a registry cleaner program.

So, what is a registry cleaner? To answer that question you must first know what a registry is. Your computer registry is where the settings and options for all programs that are added or removed from your system are stored. Every time you install or uninstall software, add or remove hardware or even create or delete a user account, that information is saved in the registry. The registry can then over time, begin to have issues and errors due to storing a lot of unneeded information from software that has been uninstalled, hardware that has been removed and other information that is no longer needed. This can have a huge affect on your computer's performance.

Registry cleaners are programs that basically do what the name implies and that is clean your computer's registry. The way they work is that they first scan the registry for errors and then make a list of them. Most cleaners will give you an option of letting the program automatically fix the errors or let the user select the errors to be fixed. The reason for the options is that sometimes letting the program automatically fix the errors can cause other problems. Allowing the user to select the errors to be fixed can eliminate that problem. However, new users or users not familiar with the registry may need to use the automatic option.

The basic services all registry cleaning programs should offer are registry scanning and automatic repairing or manual repairing of errors, regular updates of the software in order to handle new problems when they arise, the ability to run without interfering with other programs like firewalls and anti-virus, and last but certainly not least is good customer service in case you have any trouble with the software. There are a lot of registry cleaning programs out there and some offer a lot of extra features. But if you're going to spend your hard earned money on a registry cleaner, at least make sure it has the basic services mentioned here. If you make checking and cleaning your registry on a regular basis a priority, you are bound to have a better performing computer - a good cleaner can help.
