Performance Perfection Equates To Regular Registry Cleaning

2010-05-25

The first time your computer booted up, you were probably amazed at its speed. This is particularly true if you'd upgraded your hard drive or installed a new operating system--it's amazing how fast a new computer can operate. As time goes by, though, the speed of a computer can drastically drop, and most computer owners will look for ways to restore the perfect performance of a new PC. Usually, the first (and best) place to look is the Windows registry. The registry file is one of the most important parts of your computer's operating system, and by keeping it clean and trim, it's possible to keep your computer running like new.

The Windows registry is basically a set of instructions for your computer. It helps programs open and run, and keeps a list of the hardware that certain programs need to operate correctly. The Windows OS uses the registry file to keep things running smoothly, as it would take a hard drive much longer to load individual settings from each program (and each program would be much less stable, leading to computer crashes and other nasty issues). If the registry is kept small and there aren't any "bad" entries that lead to no place, the computer runs very well. However, the more bad entries a registry has, the slower the computer will become. Some programs may even stop functioning properly. The bad news is that as a computer gets older, the registry gets more and more corrupted, and more bad entries are added.

When cleaning your computer, it's helpful to use a dedicated registry cleaner that can optimize the registry. These programs can quickly scan the registry's most used sections, looking for and eliminating or changing bad entries. Most work in less than five to ten minutes, and they only need to run once or twice a month to keep computer performance maximized. They're also designed to be safe, and any unwanted changes can easily be reversed through backup features. While not an absolutely essential form of computer maintenance, registry cleaners can be a great asset for cleaning your computer and restoring functionality and performance.

As you might have guessed, registry cleaners vary in usability and performance, so be sure to read up on any cleaner that you're considering. Look for programs that offer trial versions, and always back up your registry before cleaning. Avoid free registry cleaners, as their data entries are often out of date and can lead to problems. If you use a registry cleaner regularly, you should notice immediate improved performance on a computer that's otherwise operating properly.
