How To Make Sure Your Registry Cleaner Is Doing Its Job

2010-04-04

Computers are an ever present part of day-to-day life in modern American society, with most Americans owning at least one, if not more than one computer for personal use as well as business. With so many aspects of life resting on computer usage, it is imperative that a computer run quickly and efficiently, yet many computers invariably seem to slow in performance and processing over time. A major component of the computer's decline in speed can be blamed on the computer registry, a database which has been likened to the DNA of the computer's software. The registry controls and stores many of the commands and functions used by the applications of the computer. Some of the commands need to be kept in the computer registry to be used again and again, but others repeat themselves unnecessarily, inevitably clogging up the registry and slowing speed and performance of the computer.

An obvious solution to this problem is to enter the registry manually and delete the unused and redundant data. However, there is such an overwhelming amount of data in the registry that this is simply impractical. There is also the chance that a person, through simple human error, might accidentally delete data that is non-redundant which the computer is still using, resulting in irreparable damage to the computer's operating system. A more elegant solution is to use a registry cleaner, a software program which deletes the excess or repetitive data from the computer registry.

Of course, a registry cleaner program can do this much more quickly and efficiently than a person could ever do manually and with a lower margin of error. The registry cleaner program should also back up the registry data before it deletes anything, in case some important piece of data is accidentally deleted. The program can then restore the registry to its prior state and begin the process again.

It is also important to remember that although registries do get fuller as a computer gets older, newer computers also need to have their registries cleaned. When shopping for registry cleaners or evaluating an existing one, the most important indication of the registry cleaner's value is shown in the overall performance of the computer. If the registry cleaner is working properly, the computer's increased speed and efficiency should be noticeable. Good registry cleaners will also back up older versions of the registry before they delete any items, significantly reducing the risk of a debilitating deletion. In short, a well constructed registry cleaner program will increase the efficiency and life of a computer. This is both a time saver and a money saver, as well as a great benefit to your computer's efficiency.
