Understanding Why Your Computer Consistently Freezes

2009-10-04

It has happened to all computer users in one form or another. We're working on something important and suddenly programs run slow and then completely stop responding. Commonly known as freezing, this inevitable situation occurs in all computers. There are can be several reasons why a computer system freezes. Once we understand the causes, the easier for us to resolve them, many times using registry cleaners.

There are various ways to determine if your computer is frozen. One of the most common indicators is an unresponsive program. The program will seem stuck and will simply not follow what you command it to do. It will appear fixed on the task bar and is stubbornly kept minimized. Another indicator is a pop-up message that says that the program has performed an illegal operation or the program is no longer responding. In some cases, the mouse pointer will literally freeze in its place.

Causes for freezing will also vary. One reason could be that your computer has been infected by a virus from a recent downloaded file or an unprotected website you have visited. Aside from viruses, your computer may also be infested with Spyware or Adware that maliciously tracks your personal information. There may be a problem with your Windows registry. The registry is a large database that holds the important configurations and settings allowing programs to run. When the registry is not installed properly or is corrupted by other programs, or when it does not function effectively, your computer's programs are likely to slow down. The registry runs every time a program is installed or removed, so its performance is proportional to how the entire system runs. A registry in tip-top shape will ensure a smooth running computer system.

Solutions to freeze-causing problems are simple. If you can determine which program keeps on running slow, try uninstalling the program and then reinstalling it. Next, update your anti-virus program or install a new one, and frequently run virus scans for protection. Also install anti-Spyware software to protect you from Adware and other malicious programs. Make sure to have a registry cleaner as well. Registry cleaners will help your registry maintain its optimal performance. Always remember to backup your computer files before performing any troubleshooting so, you can easily restore your files if you make errors. Do not attempt to use the Internet when you do not have an anti-virus program installed because you run the risk of automatically downloading malicious programs with you knowing it. And feel free to consult IT technicians or computer experts. Do not attempt to solve everything if you have little or no knowledge of troubleshooting because it can further damage your computer system.
